LAKE PLACID - In a fast-paced, up-and-down-the-ice hockey game, Lake Placid and Norwood-Norfolk skated to a 4-4 tie Monday in a non-league game at the Olympic Center.
The Blue Bombers scored twice in the second period to break a 2-2 deadlock, but were unable to hold their two-goal edge as the Icemen notched a pair of goals late in the third period, including a tally to tie the game at 4-4 with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation.
Each team put one shot on net during the five-minute sudden-overtime before settling for the draw.

Dillon Savage came up big for Lake Placid, scoring two goals and adding an assist, and Shane McNierney and Eddie Kane also chipped in with a goal and one assist each for the Blue Bombers.
Lake Placid headed into the game after going 0-2-1 in its last three Champlain Valley Athletic Conference starts, and head coach Keith Clark said he was pretty pleased with his team's effort.
"We played more consistently today, we just didn't finish the game," Clark said. "We kind of took our foot off the gas a little bit near the end and they made us pay for that.
"It was an exciting game," Clark added. "Their offense comes from their transition game and we generate our offense by getting the puck down low and going after it. I think both teams did a pretty good job."
McNierney gave Lake Placid an early 1-0 lead when he score 2:52 into the game. The Section X Icemen scored the next two, getting a tying tally from Troy Kovach at the 10:57 mark of the first and a goal from Dan Fyckes less than two minutes later to take a 2-1 edge. Savage then netted his first for Lake Placid with 1:59 left in the first period to send the teams into intermission tied at 2-2.
Savage netted his second goal 59 seconds into the middle stanza for a 3-2 Blue Bombers edge, and Kane followed with a goal at the 3:39 mark to give Lake Placid a two-goal cushion.
The Blue Bombers were blanked the rest of way while the Icemen were able to rally. Brandon Short scored for Norwood-Norfolk at the 11:34 mark of the third to cut Lake Placid's edge to a single goal. Then with their goalie pulled, Cody Smith beat Blue Bombers netminder Kamm Cassidy with just 19 seconds left on what proved to be the final score of the game.
"We really like playing Section VII teams in these non-league games," Icemen head coach Paul Durant said. "They are all strong teams, and you have to come ready to play. This was a really good hockey game that went back and forth.
"I liked how we were able to come back and tie it up," Durant added. "One thing I stress is I don't want to see any quitting in our kids. We didn't quit. It's a long bus ride and even getting a tie makes it a nice trip on the way home."
Both teams used most of their benches in the contest. The Icemen utilized all three of their goalies, swapping their netminders at the start of each period. Cassidy, who is just an eighth-grader, had a solid outing while going the distance in nets for the Blue Bombers. He finished with 20 saves in a game that saw Lake Placid hold a 25-24 advantage in shots on goal. Kyler Macintire, Ryan Thomas and Brandon Richards combined to make 21 saves in goal for the Icemen.
Both teams return to league play in their next starts. The 7-6-1 Icemen will host Ogdensburg Friday while the Blue Bombers, who are now 7-3-2, travel to face Northeastern Clinton on Wednesday.
