Congratulations to Kiefer Casler

Kiefer Casler made the state tournament for golf by finishing 5th at Saranac Inn the past two days.  Congratulations and best of luck in Cornell.

2013-2014 Physical Testing

For the 3rd year in a row we will have physical tests as part of our evaluation process.  Tests will include:

1. Mile run
2. Pull-Ups (maximum reps)
3. T-Test (agility)
4. Box jumps (max reps in 30 secs)
5. 40-yard sprint
6. Vertical Leap
7. Bench Press (70% of body weight - reps)

To encourage off-season training I will administer these tests to all willing players after spring sports (mid-June).  Then at the end of July I will administer them again to check on players' progress.  Realize the June and July testing are voluntary but these conditioning tests will be included in early November.

The hope is the June test demonstrate to players areas of concern they can address over the summer months.  This June test will give a baseline test so players can strive to improve.  For instance, if a player can only do two pull-ups he can strive to do five by the July test and perhaps eight by the beginning of the season.  That type of improvement across the board would mean harder shots = more goals, winning more loose pucks = more shots = more goals.

We need players to OVERACHIEVE in 2013-2014.  Working out during the off season will help players become overachievers.

I will announce the June date and time soon, but I want to wait until our spring sports come to a close.

Money Due for Golf Balls

Blue Bombers,

A reminder to all players that money is due by Tuesday for the golf balls fundraisers.  Many of you have sold more than two dozen - EXCELLENT JOB!

Reminder that after spring sports we will administer SEVEN physical tests as a baseline to willing players.  I personally know of FIVE players who are committed to a summer workout.  This mid-June test will offer a starting point for players interested in challenging themselves to improve their speed, strength and stamina.  I hope we get a good turnout and have more players commit to a summer regiment.

Good luck to all spring athletes in their meets, matches and games especially as you enter sectional play.

Golf Ball Fundraiser

BLUE BOMBER GOLF BALL FUNDRAISER

The golf balls are in!  Now we need to sell them.  Hopefully players have lined up their golfers to buy  Blue Bomber logo balls.  Each player will be given 2 dozen balls to sell.  If they can sell more that would be great.

COSTS:  Callaway Warbird Plus   $8 a sleeve or $30 a dozen
                Nike 20Xl Tour Level   $11 a sleeve or $40 a dozen

Golf balls will be handed out this week in school.  Money from this fundraiser will support our past trip to Section I and our future trip to Section III.  Thanks for supporting Blue Bomber Hockey.

If you are interested in purchasing please contact a varsity hockey player.

Checks should be made out to LPMHS.

Hockey Specific Workout Option

Players interested in summer workouts can consider the following options.

1. I have a workout in my classroom that the coach from SUNY Oswego used with HS players last summer.  If interested in a copy a player can come and see me.

2. Below is a link to a thorough summer workout program.  This workout is sponsered by Nike and hosted by an NHL player and HNL trainer.  The video streamlines on YouTube as to easily follow this program.  The video also walks you through the different phases of the workout with demonstrations.

This is the link to the hand-out of the program:

These sources can be used by athletes to improve speed, strength and endurance.  They are hockey-specific in nature.  If a player has not worked out in the past it is recommended that they seek out assistance from experts.
