But in the second, it was Kane from Shane McNierney and Dillon Savage at :47, Kane from McNierney and R.J. Reid at 7:07 and Keegan Barney on a breakaway, off a Reid assist, at 8:16.
NCCS cut it deficit to a goal when Kastle Birch scored a 7:10 of the third, with assists going to Alex Duffy and Tucker.
“It was a good game,” said NCCS coach Rob Francis. “In the first period, both teams were feeling out one another. Fortunately, we were able to get a goal late in the period.
“They then carried the play in the second period and we had a few breakdowns that they capitalized on. I felt we had more control in the third period. We pulled our goalie, got some people in front, but couldn’t get the equalizer.”
The Blue Bombers finished with a 31-25 advantage in shots on goal. Jeffrey Smith made 23 saves in net for the win and Kyle McCarthy stopped 28 shots for the Cougars.
The Cougars host Shaker-Colonie in a non-league game on Friday and then Saranac Lake in a league game on Saturday.
