For the 3rd year in a row we will have physical tests as part of our evaluation process. Tests will include:
1. Mile run
2. Pull-Ups (maximum reps)
3. T-Test (agility)
4. Box jumps (max reps in 30 secs)
5. 40-yard sprint
6. Vertical Leap
7. Bench Press (70% of body weight - reps)
To encourage off-season training I will administer these tests to all willing players after spring sports (mid-June). Then at the end of July I will administer them again to check on players' progress. Realize the June and July testing are voluntary but these conditioning tests will be included in early November.
The hope is the June test demonstrate to players areas of concern they can address over the summer months. This June test will give a baseline test so players can strive to improve. For instance, if a player can only do two pull-ups he can strive to do five by the July test and perhaps eight by the beginning of the season. That type of improvement across the board would mean harder shots = more goals, winning more loose pucks = more shots = more goals.
We need players to OVERACHIEVE in 2013-2014. Working out during the off season will help players become overachievers.
I will announce the June date and time soon, but I want to wait until our spring sports come to a close.
